A beautiful story based on the childhood experiences of Georgie Badiel, who had to walk for miles everyday with her mother to collect water.
What we like about it
- Rich earth tones in artwork
- Reminds us that water is precious and we shouldn’t take it for granted
- Introduce us to different cultures
Conversation starters
- Where does water come from?
- How does Singapore get our water?
- How did Singapore used to get our water in the older kampung days? Maybe we can get the grandparents to tell their stories!
- What’s a desert? Features of a desert? Animals and plants and human adaptations for living in deserts

I must say this is one of the best books on humility I have gotten for my 4 year old. There are some big words but it is good as I can explain and expand his vocabulary. The real life pictures at the end of the book really helped my child to understand that water shortage is a real life issue and I started to share about living conditions in Africa and how lucky we are to be living in a country With no water crisis and how we tend to take for granted. Hopefully he will remember it is not good to waste water and spend lesser time in the shower 😅
