I find this set has incredible value!
I read 《拔苗助长》 with my 4+ year old and he could understand the story and be able to narrate the main points back. He decided to doodle a scene in which 方块武士 was standing in his field delighting in his saplings which he had pulled out from the ground in a bid to make them taller (being overly anxious for them to grow quickly). The simple shapes that make up the characters are quite endearing and can be wonderful drawing prompts for the young and old!
At the end of each book there are prompts to delve deeper, to explain the meaning and origin from Classical Chinese texts. They even discuss similar idioms and have examples of 成语 relay which I think is super cool!
On a separate day, my elder boy and I doodled 逗逗皇上 after reading one of the books. The step-by-step drawings were easy to replicate and was a fun way to end our reading session.
I have to admit I don't know some of the idioms and what they means. The books are interesting to me. Read to my daughter (3 years old), I think the book is difficult for her age group to understand but nevertheless it is good to just read aloud to her and expose her to more Chinese in our English speaking environment. My daughter likes the many characters in the books and like to refer them to the back of book (character map).
