A book that declares don't touch this book or don't press this button? We'll secretly want to do it, just to see what happens! Worry not, the protagonist 小瑞 DOES actually give permission to touch the book or press the button as the story goes along, so don't worry that the kids are going to learn to disobey.
From the day these books entered our door, they have been requested with lots of squeals. Appeals to little ones, especially those with extra cheekiness!
After reading, we had good conversations about rules, why do rules exist, what happens when rules are broken. Certain infrigements may not hurt anyone, but some consequences can be disastrous. Beyond the "do this" or "don't do this" commands we give as parents, we hope to show our kids the merit of submission to authority and choose to do so joyfully, even when they may not fully understand.
With our younger son who tests every boundary we set, the challenge is for him to learn to follow rules. For our generally compliant firstborn, we have to teach him when certain rules can be broken, and when to show grace. They're both from the same "factory" and gene pool, yet couldn't be more different!
Reasons why we love these 2 books
☑️ This book shouts FUN!
☑️ Sturdy board book with rounded corners Soon the boys were repeating the lines and asking each other to do funny actions in Mandarin, just like 小瑞!
