我的世界 Minecraft: Adventure Comics
It's no secret that one of the most effective ways to encourage reading Chinese is through high-interest topics.
Even after ten years, Minecraft continues to be played by children (and adults!) worldwide. Players explore a blocky, 3D world, discovering and extracting raw materials, crafting tools, items, building structures and simple machines.
My hubby introduced Minecraft to our boys some time back. I was initially hesitant but soon realized the number of new words and concepts they picked up.
My boys enjoyed the comics a lot and we spent many evenings reading them together. Not before long, they’d read to each other or on their own.
In fact, it was the book of choice for my youngest boy when he brought this book to school during his first day of primary one!
It sparked off lots of interesting conversations in both English and Mandarin about precious metals, materials used for construction and more!
On one occasion, my eldest son even collated a list of terms from Minecraft in both English and Mandarin and proudly shared them with me. It’s amazing when we ride on the kids’ interests, and they’re motivated to read Chinese books without the need to nag or force!
If your child has played Minecraft before, or is currently playing it, then this bookset is definitely for you!
