“I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
As I read yet another bedtime story
to my 2 year old daughter,
it dawned on me how fast time flies.
It seems like just yesterday
that I was reading to my firstborn and secondborn as toddlers.
And yet,
they've grown in the blink of an eye.
Cherishing these simple times with my youngest now,
when it's just her, with mama and our favourite books.
She may not remember the words on the page,
or all the books we've read,
but I hope she'll remember the times we had fondly,
snuggling together,
flipping through pages,
chatting and laughing together.
Documenting one of our
typical, unhurried
yet altogether magical
moments on a normal evening.
In these 2 minutes or so, she
✅ shows sustained joint attention
✅ could follow the story
✅ had some back-and-forth exchanges
👌🏻 skipped some parts
👌🏻 looked out for her favourite cat
though simple,
I consider this readaloud a success!
As a mum of 3,
I'm learning to take things slow,
that less is more.
To block out certain times to be present fully,
enjoy the here and now with my kids,
to focus on building our relationship.
Grateful for these little moments!
