We teach our children how to read and write,

but do we teach them how about emotions?

By visually associating emotions with colours -
yellow for happiness,
blue for sadness,
red for anger,
black for fear and
green for calm,

we give little children the tools to identify and label their emotions.
Being able to label emotions helps us
to then work on regulating them.

Colour Monster wakes up one day feeling confused!

My 6 year old and I had a fun time
trying to analyse how the elements and layers are made,
using crayon, marker, textured paper, different colours of cardboard etc.
He kept saying that the illustrations are really 3 dimensional
and it wow-ed him!

My 2 year old had fun identifying the colours and emotional expressions on the monster.

Perhaps another time we can attempt to make some monsters
just like those in the book.

Great book for toddlers and up!

I just received this book today and had to write a review because I'm so excited about it! It is an easy to read and simple story with cute illustrations that look almost 3D! I appreciate the simple concept of associating emotions to colours and how it would appeal to toddlers! My 2+ years old was so attracted by the different colours so I drew the monster (which is thankfully not too difficult to draw) and did a little colouring activity. And I can see many other potential art and craft extension activities from this book! Highly recommend!

Helpful for if you want kids to associate feelings with specific colors

My 2yo somehow was more interested in it than my 4yo. Idk if the concept of associating specific colors to specific emotions is too "simplistic" for my 4yo (i.e. when the monster is feeling angry, he becomes red).

My son actually loves the color red so he was not to thrilled that Red was associated with anger in the book. Haha but nonetheless, I think helpful to learn about basic colors and "basic" feelings.

I drew out the monster and let the children "color" in whatever colors they wanted. Good for extension into an coloring activity
