Follow the 11 cheeky and curious cats on their various adventures as they encounter a whale, build house, sell potato patties, learn to follow rules and more.
This set of fun Chinese books for kids is written and illustrated by Noboru Baba, a manga artist from Japan. The adorable pictures really capture the attention of my 5 and 7 year old, and get them excited about reading and speaking in Mandarin. I'd highly recommend it!
We first heard of the 11 Cats Series from my 5 year old's school teacher. After reading 《11只猫盖房子》 about the cats building a house, he immediately begged me to find more stories in the series! We did a drawing of a few of the cats inspired by the book, and my 5 year old kept talking about the story over the next few days.
Special mention for another title within, 《11只猫进袋子》, where the cats see signs saying 禁止摘花,危险!禁止过桥,禁止爬树 and totally ignore the signs. They then see a sign 禁止钻进袋子 - guess what! They just HAD to walk right into it. Turns out that a monster had set the trap for the cats, and brought them back as servants to work in his castle. Later, they managed to outsmart the monster and escaped its clutches. At the end, the cats saw a sign that read 禁止横穿马路 - and they took its advice, crossing the overhead bridge instead. The cats learn that rules are there to protect us, and for once, choose to listen!

Ordered a few books to arrive during my trip to Singapore. Books arrived safely and more. Thank you so much!
These books were really entertaining for me but I think the humour is a little beyond my 2yo toddler. The cats are gleeful and even though they think they are very clever, it’s funny to see them get outsmarted by adversaries or even the weather! The world of these 11 cats is not always so black and white the way that children’s stories tend to be. It’s a bit more nuanced.
This is a humorous and endearing read, and can be read independently by a P2/P23 child. Six books ni the set makes it ideal to work through together as a family and see what the curious and loveable cats are up to on their next adventure. This set was originally written in Japanese, and there isn't an English translation, which is another great incentive to read it in Chinese. It was a winner with my kids.
