Vater und Sohn (Father and Son) is about a plump, balding father and his son in everyday situations. Lots of humour, sure to elicit giggles.

Gift this to a child who resists Mandarin and he will be begging you to read this to him to find out what happened! Who says Mandarin books are boring? No way!

This edition of the comics come with stories selected to explain and introduce Chinese idioms.

For every Chinese idiom, there are

  • a related comic strip
  • 解释 explanations of common Chinese idioms,
  • 出处 where it came from,
  • 成语故事 original story behind the Chinese idioms.
  • There's also a 成语接龙 Chinese Idiom relay component that could be interesting to older kids!

Fun fact:
This was originally a pantomime comic, without any words,
and featured weekly in the Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung from 1934 to 1937.

Also do note that there may be instances of smoking within the comics,
reflective of the social norms in the times and setting of the publications.
