Years ago, I read this old Cree Indian saying at the Singapore Zoological Gardens

Only after the last tree has been cut down
Only after the last river has been poisoned
Only after the last fish has been caught
Only then will you find that money
cannot be eaten

and it stuck with me all these while.

Part of this book is based on this idea!

I love the message of the book -
not only do we understand that human overconsumption can bring devastation to our planet and ecosystems,
we also learn that all is not lost,
we can do our part to bring protect and nurture life in this world.

Features we love:

• all the illustrations are made using collage! It's really eye-opening to notice how the artist expertly uses cutouts and textures of many different kinds to create visuals to convey messages
• Illustrations are detailed  - the style is not what we would gravitate to usually, but it's interesting!
  We spent a long time at the pages depicting clothes made out of animal skins and checking out the characters in the cars emitting vehicle exhaust.
• Text is simple
• Message is thought-provoking!

Let's help our child take their first step towards becoming a responsible and environmentally-conscious citizen of the world!
