My kids and I are enjoying these titles by local author Emily Lim!
What we love about them:
- Realistic illustrations by Cheng Puay Koon.
- LOCAL wildlife - it's really meaningful to get to know about the animals that also call our country home.
- Relatable - because we get to see these animals around the island - except the pangolin which is rarer, and hopefully the python and macaques from afar!
- Books are BILINGUAL! We're able to describe and discuss about the animals in both English and Mandarin.
- Facts about the animals in both languages. Appreciate the author doing the research and presenting these simple and interesting facts!
Titles in this set:
- Hornbills in Our Neighbourhood 犀鸟,我们的新邻居
- Little Otter, Litter Trouble 一直受困的小水獭
- Macaques in our Estate 猕猴来到了我们家
- Python in the Playground 游乐场来了一位“客人”
- Why Did the Pangolin Cross the Road? 穿山甲为什么要过马路
Thank you @ow.montessori.family and @followingjoy for sharing photos of your storytelling session! Excited to hear that you enjoy these books so much (:
Sharing some resources that we have enjoyed while learning about local wildlife! Hope these deepens your learning and helps your family enjoy nature more.
Differences between hornbills and toucans
It‘s a great book to engage my child and teach her the consequences to nature and wildlife of littering. For now, my kid prefers that I read the English version rather than the Chinese version. Hope she will be open to reading the Chinese version soon.
hornbills and otters are quite a common sight around where we stay. I like the story goes beyond just being a story, but also being educational and relatable for us
This book is a good way to expose my child to both English and Chinese of the same story. We also get to talk to her about the wildlife in Singapore and how we can care for them.
Thank you JA for taking the time to leave reviews! Really glad to know that your daughter loves both the Otter and Hornbill books (:
This series is a good introduction to the wildlife scene in Singapore. The books have nice illustration and easy to understand narrative which made it engaging for the little one.
Enjoyed reading this book about local animals, and love that it's bilingual so we can read it in both languages! Illustrations were adorable and it was informative.
